Welcome!

Hi, I’m Gwen (she/her), a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT), Certified Corrective Exercise Specialist (CCES), Functional Training Specialist (FTS), Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT 27581), and really good listener located in Portland, Oregon.

I’m also the owner and founder of FIT: Functionally Informed Training, and I’m thrilled to welcome you to my studio!

Growing up, I spent a lot of time in competitive sports, including ice skating. In that community, there was such an emphasis on what my body looked like rather than how it moved that it became hard for me to accept my body as it was. Coupled with the narrow, toxic messages from diet culture and the fitness industry of how a body “should” look, I ended up with some dysfunctional ideas about WHY I exercise.

As a result, I have done, and continue to do, a lot of conscious and intentional work to combat these harmful messages. I carry these values into every session with my clients.

While earning my master’s degree in counseling psychology at the University of Oregon, I was immersed in learning communications and change theories to be a guide to people as they created the changes in their lives they desired and needed. This gives me the unique skill of being able to effectively listen to people and translate that into the change they seek to make. I found I did my best therapeutic work while engaging in movement — like walking or shooting hoops with clients.

Before long, I realized I had a passion for connecting with people through movement goals, and the seed for FIT was planted! I have sought out additional education, training, and certifications in personal training, therapeutic movement, exercise science, and massage therapy.

In 2010, I started my personal training business and began working full time with clients in their homes, businesses, and rented space. In 2013, after more certifications and education, I opened the FIT Studio with a focus on creating a safe and inclusive environment to work on functional movement training and general strength training. In 2024, I am excited to move to a bigger space where I can continue this work and expand my services to include massage therapy, larger group classes, and community education.

When I am not in the studio, I enjoy a run or a relaxing walk up Mount Tabor with my pup, Penny Lane. I am so inspired by dogs! They keep me moving on Portland’s dark, rainy days. I also love trying out new restaurants and going to my old favorites, spending time with my husband and friends, playing just about any game, and traveling.

If you are interested in working together, contact me or book an initial session. I look forward to hearing from you!

— Gwen
